The National Restaurant Association and the American Hotel & Lodging Association announced Tuesday that, for the first time, the two are working together to bring more than 1,000 industry professionals to Capitol Hill for an upcoming fly-in.
The Hill visits will occur during the two associations' legislative conferences in D.C. April 14 and 15. Among the issues they will raise is changing the definition of a full-time worker under the Affordable Care Act to an employee who works 40 hours a week.
In addition to the regular visits with lawmakers and staffers, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) will address a joint session of attendees.
"From much-needed fixes in the Affordable Care Act to increasing the government's role in promoting travel and tourism to workforce issues, Congress has an important role to play in the oversight and implementation of laws that affect our industry," AHLA CEO Katherine Lugar said in a statement.
NRA CEO Dawn Sweeney added that the restaurant industry is currently facing a period of regulatory uncertainty, hence the need for restaurant owners and employees to speak with policymakers.
"Congress needs to promote pro-growth policies that will help restaurants continue to stimulate our economy and grow our nation's workforce," she said.
